Single storey extension to 17th century thached house.
The project:
This was a character thatched cottage in the picturesque Hampshire village of Dummer. Our clients commisioned a single storey wraparound extension that had to be in keeping with the original house. The extension would need exposed beams to match those that were in place already and we needed to protect and enhance these original beams. External landscaping was required that included a wraparound garden wall that had to match the rest of the eighteenth century property.
Location: Down cottage, Down street, Dummer.
Our solution:
We completed all works without break in 4 months. Labour varied from 2-4 individuals everyday. Throughout the build, our focus on detail to maintain the old style feel was paramount. This was a confined area with difficult access for materials, and particular care was taken to avoid damage to surrounding properties. This was a high end project which demanded close attention to detail. There were no problems with the build, time-line (finished ahead of schedule), and cost. This was a returning client.
Project timing:
Starting April 2014, finished August 2014.
